Their story
Meet the Hinojosa family of Rancho Viejo, Texas — Abel, Maria and their three young children, Abel, 8, Sabrina, 6 and Samuel, 4. Abel is a family law attorney. Maria was recently a banker until she decided, this year, to retire and spend more time raising the children. Now a single income family, the Hinojosas are working hard to help save energy to reduce family expenses. When Maria received her June energy bill and discovered the TXU Energy Power Saver Challenge contest information, she decided to enter to see how TXU Energy could help. Since they have only been in their home for one year they have not had a chance to discover which improvements need to be made or where to start. They look forward to learning the results from their home energy audit so they will know how to improve the energy performance of their home. The Hinojosas hope what they learn will improve their chances to win the TXU Energy Power Saver Challenge Grand Prize, as well as help others to discover ways to improve their own energy performance. |

Their goals
The Hinojosa family would like to reduce their energy consumption and reduce their electricity bill. They hope to learn how to combat energy waste in their high-ceiling rooms and discover how to ensure their home is well-sealed against the hot South Texas summer sun. They also know that the humidity of the region is a major issue in cooling their home and look forward to learning how to deal with that factor. The Hinojosas would like to be an example to others by demonstrating ways to reduce energy usage and by doing their part to help the environment. |
