What Does HERS Mean?

HERS Index (Home Energy Rating System)
The HERS Index is used to measure a home’s energy efficiency. Tests are performed measuring thermal efficiency to calculate a home’s index score. The lower your home’s HERS Index, the more energy efficient it is.

Hello, we are the Sheffields, Ron, Shawn, Aidan, and Lindy. We are a family of four that are very interested in decreasing our carbon footprint. We recycle and are interested in starting to compost. While these are first steps, we realize that one of the best ways we can decrease our footprint is by making our home more efficient. By decreasing our consumption, we are teaching our children that one person (or four!) CAN make a difference and it is up to each one of us to do our part. It is up to us as parents to teach our children ways in which we can preserve the earth and one of the best places for us to start is in our home. These reasons are, of course, for the "bigger picture". A more close up picture would be that of our families energy savings. With the cost of fuel on the rise, as well as groceries, it is becoming more and more important for us to save in any way we can. The substanital savings that may be had by doing simple changes around our home would lead to a more stable financial future for our family. Most importantly, we are willing to make changes in our lives to lower our consumption and increase the efficiency of our energy usage. It is this willingness that makes our family the best choice to participate in the Power Saver Challenge.
